Liberty

Wayfinding implementation

Liberty of London needed an effective and eye-catching wayfinding and signage scheme to coincide with the store’s momentous ‘Renaissance’ refurbishment, unveiled in February 2009. The distinctive appearance – and famed heritage – of the central London department store is renowned worldwide. So working on the most significant renewal in its 85-year history, we knew that our client would have high expectations and outcomes would be closely scrutinised.

Against extremely tight timescales, Endpoint worked in partnership with Liberty’s in-house graphics team to create a signage design style suitable within the store’s visionary environments. At the same time, Endpoint formed a clear understanding of the store’s new layout, and developed a logical and visible wayfinding scheme to facilitate customers’ journeys.

Having taken both the design style and navigational solutions through the necessary approval gates, Endpoint sourced materials and oversaw production to ensure concepts were realised to the fullest. Implementation was also managed sensitively as no shutdown period had been scheduled.

Rather than attempting to mimic the store’s daring and abstract appearance, the design solutions focussed on clarity and precision – standing out from the displays without detracting from them. Our breadth of expertise, attention to detail and readiness to put in the time and effort necessary enabled the scheme to be delivered on budget and on time – the store revealed its new look to feverish media attention on Valentine’s Day.
